Spirit Charms tier list
Watch for community meta opinions, then check the table above before copying a high-notch setup.
Stay at 3 notches until the payoff is obvious. Use this page to pick charms by goal, check HP penalty math, remove or merge bad slots, and scan the full charm table before copying a high-tier build.
Spirit Charms cost notches equal to their tier. 0-3 total notches have no HP penalty. Every notch after that removes 6% max HP, so a Tier 4 charm is never "free" unless the effect changes how you win fights. Beginners should start with low-cost utility or farming charms, then move into high-tier PvP charms after choosing a faction, clan, weapon and skill tree.
Use this before stacking Tier 3 or Tier 4 charms. The safe zone is three total notches.
| Total notches | Max HP penalty | Example setup | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-3 | 0% | Three Tier 1 charms, or one Tier 3 charm | Safest leveling and beginner builds |
| 4 | -6% Max HP | One Tier 4 charm, or T3 + T1 | Worth it for a build-defining charm |
| 5 | -12% Max HP | T3 + T2, or a merged Tier 5 charm | Strong PvP/boss builds only |
| 6 | -18% Max HP | Two Tier 3 charms | High payoff, high risk |
| 7 | -24% Max HP | T4 + T3 | Late-game glass cannon or niche tech |
| 8 | -30% Max HP | Two Tier 4 charms | Usually too expensive unless proven |
| 9 | -36% Max HP | T4 + T3 + T2 | Very risky; needs exact plan |
| 10 | -42% Max HP | Maximum total tier sum | Challenge builds, not default play |
Most bad charm decisions are not permanent, but fixing them takes route knowledge.
Charms cannot be freely unequipped. Look for random purple portals, enter Valley of Screams, then use the blue light or pedestal to remove selected charms.
Merging is tied to the VV Initiative questline through Human World, Jabu Labs, Enrique's Sanctuary and the secret Hueco Mundo lab.
Merge recipes use two Spirit Charms plus one Energy Cell. The result takes one charm slot but keeps the combined tier cost.
A T3 + T2 merged charm becomes Tier 5. That is one slot, but it still costs five notches and triggers a -12% max HP penalty.
These are reported player picks, not official balance tiers. Use them as a routing tool.

Spirit Charms are passive build modifiers. Each charm has a tier, and the tier equals its notch cost. You can safely equip up to 3 total notches; every notch above 3 removes 6% max HP.
Ten total notches is the reported maximum tier sum. Every notch above 3 removes 6% max HP, so a Tier 4 charm alone already costs you 6% HP.
Flashmaster, Fortified Fighter, Side Character, Factotum's Spirit and Giant Fighter stay at or below three notches and help movement, safety or farming.
Side Character, Factotum's Spirit, Giant Fighter, Flashmaster and Lizard's Spirit are reported strong PvE picks for leveling and boss farming.
Shonen Syndrome, Heavenly Restriction, Await the Opening, Perfect Flash, Haze of Death, Raid Boss and You're In My Range are reported strong duel picks — only after you can afford the notch cost.
No. Tier 4 charms cost 4 notches and immediately trigger a -6% max HP penalty. Use them only when the effect fits your build.
Go to the Valley of Screams through a random purple portal, then interact with the blue removal light or pedestal inside the charm room.
Unlock the merge station through the VV Initiative route and secret Hueco Mundo lab. Merging uses two charms and an Energy Cell, then creates one charm with both effects and the combined tier cost.
