Shinigami progression is rewarding but easy to misread. The route is not just "reach Level 25"; you need meditation, timed Spirit Whispers, the bell puzzle, the Level 35 fog gate, NPC dialogue and a Shikai boss fight.

Follow the route in order. Most stuck points come from missing a Whisper or not exhausting dialogue.

Spirit Whispers and meditation
Whispers are not normal dialogue. Treat them as timed progression triggers.
Start
Press L at Level 25
First meditation starts the Shikai route. If nothing happens, check your level and whether you are in a valid state.
React
Press L when Whisper appears
The Whisper text appears above your HP area. Press L quickly; waiting too long can waste the trigger.
Farm
If you sleep, get more XP
If meditation makes you sleep instead of teleporting, the route usually needs more combat XP or another Whisper.
Bell puzzle answers
Some bells ask riddles; others spawn enemies. Cleared bells may remain completed even if you get sent back.

Most Shikai problems are progression-state problems, not permanent bugs.
